Spring/Summer 2026 Driver Education Information
The Spring/Summer Driver Education class is anticipated to begin May 22nd, 2026. To register, students must be fifteen (15) years of age or older by November 20th, 2026.
The cost for this driver education course is $275. For full-time West Side students, $225 of this cost can be covered by the Idaho Advanced Opportunities Credit. To be eligible for the credit, students need to be enrolled full-time in regular classes at West Side High School. The class is worth one elective credit at West Side High School. Additionally, there is a separate charge of $21.50 payable at the DMV for the permit.
→ To enroll, students must not have any failing grades from the current or previous term.
→ Classes will be held from 7:30 to 10:00 am each Monday and a few Thursdays. (With the exception of the first and second class on Friday 5/22 and Tuesday 5/26). Drives will be scheduled on a regular rotation throughout the week. Students will be given a schedule in the first class. (See the anticipated schedule below)
How to Register:
- Step A — May 7th at 7:00 am:

You will receive an email later in the day verifying your student is in the class and a copy of the registration form and the Advanced Opportunities Participation form (covers $225 of the course fee for full-time West Side students).
→ In the event the class is filled, you will also be notified by email. Please note that West Side Driver Education classes are held three times a year in the Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer
- Step B — On May 12th at 7:30 am:
After you receive a verification email that your student is on the class list, please fill out and bring to Mr. Adams:
- The Registration Form
- Either the Advanced Opportunities Participation form and $50 or the full course fee of $275
You must bring the forms and payment to Mr. Adams and collect the required paperwork during this time. When registering with Mr. Adams, you will be given a Verification of Enrollment form that is required at the DMV when obtaining a driving permit.
- Step C — May 11th through 19th:
Permit Registration at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. The cost for the permit is $21.50 payable to the Franklin County Sheriff. You will need the following with you when you go:
- Official state-issued birth certificate for your student
- Valid Idaho driver license or Idaho identification card for the parent
- Student Photo ID (activity) card, a yearbook with photo, or other student ID
- Glasses or contacts (to take the vision test)
- Student’s social security number
- The Verification of Enrollment form Mr. Adams gave you when you turned in your registration papers.
At the sheriff’s office, you will receive a paper verifying that you have purchased the permit. DON’T LOSE THIS PAPER – It must be brought to the first class or the state requires they are dropped from Driver Education.
- Step D — May 22nd at 7:30 am:
The first day of class, students need to bring:
A: Permit Paperwork they received from the DMV
B: Pencil or pen to every class.
Classes will be held in Mr. Adams classroom in the Beutler Middle School Building. Class begins at 7:30 am and will end at 10:00 am. Parents may pick up their students at that time.

I anticipate this class should be complete in mid-July. On some occasions, vehicle issues, illness, or poor weather could cause drives or classes to be delayed/rescheduled.

Driver Education is offered as a public service by the West Side School District. The school is not required to provide this service.
